SNIPPING YOUR POSTS

When posting messages to email groups, or even to other recipients in your address book, it is considered a common courtesy to “snip” excess data from your message. This is especially important if you are posting to a group, and you are replying to a message from a Daily Digest.

COC-Index

It also is useful if only replying to an individual message, because that one message may have several other replies in it. If you’ve ever received a post (message) from someone or a group member that has not snipped, then you’ll appreciate the importance of doing this! It makes it so much easier to read, and keeps your friends from *growling* at you! LOL

In case you don’t know how to snip your post, here is a short tutorial on how to do it!

I’m just using message from a group I’m in to use as an example.

This is a lengthy post (bad!! LOL)

Thanks Shannon! I love hairsticks. They are really
comfortable and hold your hair so well. They don't
look like they would but they do. And they can be so
decorative, and I love that part!! Now I have to make
myself more, I love to have them to match all my
outfits so I have them in every color!!! And thanks
so much for the compliments! :) It's a wonder I have
any hair left, as much stuff as I do to it all the
time! LOL!! I do like it long though, I get bored
with it the same way all the time, and with it long,
there is just so much more that you can do with it.
:)

As you can see, this is a rather lengthy message. And could be an annoying problem, if several people didn’t snip in a digest message. The whole digest would be full of old replies that didn’t apply to the message that was being sent this time. Below is the same example, but snipped!

Correct Snippage

Thanks Shannon! I love hairsticks. They are really

That is much better, isn’t it??? I’ve simply cut out the extra replies on the bottom of the message, so that only the one I’m replying to is showing.

If you don’t know how to do this, it’s a very simple process. It’s called Cutting. And, no, you don’t need to go grab your scissors! LOL

In order to cut a section of text from a document, email, etc., you first have to Highlight the area to be cut. You do this by placing your mouse to the left of the first letter of the section, then hold down your left mouse button, and drag your mouse along. You’ll see that those words are now covered in a block of color. Drag your mouse to the end of the section, then release the mouse button. You should now see your unwanted text in a colored block. Like so:

Next, you need to Right click on the highlighted area. Be careful that your cursor (blinking arrow or whatever you have) is on the highlighted section, and not the white section, or it won’t work. When the drop down box appears, you should select Cut.

That is it! Your unwanted text should now be gone! And you are ready to send your email message without all the excess text!
