ClayMates:
There are many reasons why I wanted to take that post about some weirdness
happening on another group and "nip it in the bud". It's part of my job here
as Co-Owner and Moderator of this list.
Email groups like CITY-o-Clay and other polymer clay groups each have their
own traditions and cultures.
We don't focus on sales and make effort to prevent SPAM. We spoil new clayers.
We lend books, vids and gather donations for clayers in need. There's no flame
wars or unfriendly cliques. ClayMates are discouraged from putting themselves
down. All this is done to create an environment that is safe and nurturing,
where artists can develop their skills.
Guiding the list when a situation arises is one way the COCModSquad works
towards keeping the environment here on the list free from stress and also
free from any weirdness that comes from another group.
There's a couple of reasons for this:
(1) CITY-o-Clay is busy enough. Check the home page and see that there's
months where we can have over a thousand posts go through.
(2) Other polymer clay Yahoo Groups have their own topics. What goes on
elsewhere most likely will not be going on here and visa versa. When every
other polymer clay list was doing "Rock Purses" for years that topic was never
done here. When we're celebrating mini food you'll be hard pressed to find
that as a topic elsewhere.
(3) It's not relevant to the list members here. If the first mention of
activity that's happening on another group isn't corrected immediately then it
breeds more posts and then things get quickly out of hand. The COCModSquad has
no control over what goes on on another list. For example: we don't encourage
off list swaps because we don't have any control over them. Off list swaps
might not be as stress free as ours are.
(4) As a measure of courtesy to other Yahoo Group owners comments about what's
going on with another group isn't prudent. List owners try to keep the peace
with each other. I'm sure other polymer clay Yahoo Group owners don't want
discussions on their list about our Newbie Box Swaps, for example.
(5) Flame wars on other Yahoo Groups do not spill over to CITY-o-Clay if we
keep to the topics here. We're chatty but we also like to avoid "situations"
that start up else where.
If there's something happening on another polymer clay or miniature Yahoo
Group, where anyone has a friend there who is also subscribed to this list,
take the discussion off list, please. After 6 years of tending this list I've
found that it's just good policy to keep comments list specific.
If anyone has questions, comments, or issues about this friendly reminder
please contact the COCModSquad off list at...
COCModSquad-owner@yahoogroups.com
and we will contact you off list.
With that being said, what is on your work table? What are you making or would
like to figure out how to make? Have you see a website that's inspirational?
Are you experimenting with a new technique and if so how did it turn out? Are
you building a doll house or room box? Are you looking for an alternative to
traditional doll houses or room boxes? Are you stuck with a "clay block" and
don't know how to goose your muse?
There's a number of things we can discuss here that will help us get a grip on
our clay.
Thank you for understanding this policy of being list specific in our posts.
