Member's Reviews:

This book is well written with easy-to-follow instructions and an abundance of projects (20 main projects, double that when you include the variations). But it’s real strength is in a couple of the “extras.”

The book starts with the (seemingly) mandatory polymer clay basics section that includes conditioning, baking, finishing, safety, etc. It moves into basic techniques, which at first glance, seem to be the usual: mixing, skinner blend, color, basic beads, etc. Except she does something a little different with her color section—she includes a page on color palettes instead of the usual color mixing/color wheel. She has ten different palettes that she’s worked up including batik, cloisonné, earthy, and tropical, just to name a few. It’s a fabulous tool, especially for those of us used to working with favorite colors/palettes but wanting to try something new—it’s a good starting point for playing with new color combinations and seeing what types of combinations are available.

The other “gem” in this book is the section on canes, which includes all the basics but also has some really terrific, but simple floral and leaf canes. When you combine these canes with her color palettes, you can make some really wonderful patterns and designs.

Well worth reading, especially for people wanting to expand their use of colors and simple caning skills.
