CITY-Leaders:
I registered a domain and paid for a year's worth of hosting of a
website for the other list family. The website is paid for until
next Thanksgiving and there's a ton of space that'll need filling.
The response from the former leader's list was underwhelming from
most and out right hostile from some. That's a TELL that the party
is over.
So, nothing was done on that website to speak of before a bunch of
us struck out on our own to start CITY List Family.
I put in for a change to the Domain name on Monday. I didn't imagine
we'd grow so quickly in just two weeks. So now I'm ramping up for
our list family website.
Each CITY-List will have a section of the new website to feature
their list. What your Mod Team decides to go up there is up to
y'all.
I suggest you "adopt-a-webslinger" from WebDesignCITY to help you,
should you need the help. Or have a Mod Team member to join WDC to
learn how to do it. I've suggested that CITYzens on WDC should look
to "adopt-a-list" to help with their practice.
It's just a thought, adopting a webslinger. That's optional. Just a
bit of my rabble rousing.
Each CITY-List will have a websection to feature the work, swap
information, recipes, who lost the most weight for the week,
inspirational stories about our pets, pictures of the Mod team or
what ever other happy stuff we can put in there. If the Mod team of
any CITY-List can't build this section, can't find a volunteer
webslinger to help, then we'll find you help. No CITY-List will go
without their own web section, by golly by gum.
We can write articles concerning the topics of our lists. We can
have a space for the "Rambles" from your list, those long winded
posts that are "keepers" that you see me recycle for the new COC
list members. Links to personal websites, albums or ebay listings
for the Mod team or list members could be a nice addition. "Special
Guests" can be invited to a chat, that chat log be put on a webpage.
The purpose of a website for CITY-lists is two fold:
(1) one to show potential list members who's who and what's what.
(2) to have a web space to "recognize" list members in some way:
Recognition is a big deal with giving list members their "props"
(proper respect). The web section for each list is a place where the
list member can send their friends and family to say "Lookie here,
see what I made, did, shared!" and non list members can take a look.
List members who are working hard, participating, showing their
work, will have a chance on being "featured".
The hope is to have content change from time to time. Nothing is
more oh-hum boring than a website that never changes. If we change
something in our web sections, like "ClayMate of the Week" or some
such, then folks will come back to just check it out. If we feature
our list members they get a tickle out of it. If our web section is
fun and interesting that may drive traffic to your site, your ebay
listings. Plus, it's free to you. Unlike GeoCities sites that are
free by way of ads that are annoying, sporting a web page engine
that sucks.
So with that being said, below is the post I sent to WDC to see if
there's some interest in doing this communal effort. Any and all
suggestions about the website in general post to this list. All
discussions on what goes up on your web section discuss on your Mod
team list. When you all decide what you want and what will be fun
for you then post it here.
I'm looking for feedback and that's why this is going out as a
special notice.
xoxo

I've started the process of getting the domain name of
http://www.CITY-Lists.com
It should be available in a couple of days. What I'm thinking of as
a plan is to set up "subsites" for each CITY-List. You folks here
who don't yet have a domain, but want to practice can "adopt-a-List"
to help with set up their web section. You can add graphic arts,
sign the pages you build "This page built by CITYzen Kane of
WebDesignCITY" or something along that line.
The plan is along the line of whitewashing Tom Sawyer's fence. The
other CITY-Leaders heading the lists may not know how to set up a
web section. I certainly don't want to do all of them. Some of you
may like having a "real" website to practice on.
If that doesn't blow up anyone's skirt or knock anyone's socks off,
what about my setting up a space on the CITY-List site just for this
list, for your practice work?
Practicing putting together webpages and not having a space to see
them on a real website just doesn't sound like a whole lot of fun to
me.
So there it is then, adopt-a-list and/or practice area for your
webwork, it's all optional of course.
