To the volunteers who are
considering helping us build this list family...
I need to know that you've read the files that were sent to you on
subscription. If three files didn't come to you when you were
approved, could you check the files area on the list's web page.
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/CITY-Leaders/files
If you feel you can comfortably function within the guidelines
provided there, please post to the list that you are ready to
schedule your training for the "behind the scenes" Yahoo Group
settings.
The training will take place just like clayart's webcam demos, but
no need for the cam. We'll meet in Yahoo Messenger chat at a time
that is convenient for YOU. So there'll be no stress for you to be
somewhere at a particular time picked by someone else.
If your connection online is too erratic for Chat Training, let me
know, post to this list and we will figure out something. There's
chat logs of the training for the ClayArtMods. I could forward those
training logs to this list, for example, and you all can read them
if you can't get to a chat training session. Let me know how we are
to help you with your training.
I want you to be comfortable and happy while we do this chat
training session. Learning something new is difficult enough without
a clock watching whip cracking cranky heifer nagging at you, right?
So I'll need a week's worth of schedule from each of you, I'll
compare that to my schedule of Elder Care and CITY-o-Clay Demos and
we'll settle on a time that's good for both of us.
The Moderators of the Clay List can also do training, for they have
been trained in this way, they know the drill. It's good practice
for them for they are heading lists of their own now and need to
learn how to train new moderators going forward.
I'll be treating you with as much love and tenderness as I do on the
clay list. We'll just be learning different stuff.
What I intend to do for your training is to make you temporary
moderator for the City-o-Clay (COC for short). That way you'll have
a huge membership to do searches with, large archived message store
to poke through. For changing the home page of a list we can use
this list to play with. That'll mean I'll be making you moderators
of this list so you can have that admin right to change the home
page.
Adding things to the list's home page like pictures, changing
colors, getting clickable links in the text, all that cosmetic stuff
is fun, but not all that necessary to learn, so we start with fun
stuff then.
There are things I need to share with all of you about protecting
your various lists from spammers, like having everyone on moderation
until their first post. If their first post is spam, how do we get
rid of that post and not approve it? How do we ban spammers? How do
we put someone on moderation and how do we remove that moderated
status once a bit of disquiet has been ironed out?
Lastly, if you choose to stay with us for this CITY list family
building you need to post to this list your concerns, questions, and
what you want to avoid on the lists that you will be volunteering
with.
Let's say you had a bad experience on another list, how was it
handled? If it was handled badly how do we improve the tactic so we
can mediate disputes or put to rest a bit of bother we might find on
the lists we are moderating?
Remember, God First, Family Second, everything else can take a
number and stand in line. This is a volunteer gig, it is not to take
time away from your real life unless you have the time to spare.
There is NO EXPECTATION on any one of you to do ALL THE WORK on any
list. There is no expectation for any of you to do anything that
isn't in line with what you really love to do, so it's not work, but
rather joyful farting about.
So new folks, the Founding Mothers are all here with you, all
familiar names of the ClayArtMods and KathyL who is my peer from the
old list family.
Any questions, concerns, address issues here. You'll be opening up
to folks you know and hopefully trust already. We're not strangers,
we're just embarking on a new adventure with a bunch of pals we know
from another adventure.
So in that way, it's going to be fun to teach y'all, and it'll be
fun for all of you to learn as well.
Thank you for joining, thank you for your willingness to help us
build the CITY lists and let me know if you're comfortable with our
guidelines....
oh, before I forget, if there's a guideline that you're not
comfortable with, bring it up, let us discuss it here, nothing is
written in stone, things are in a state of development and like soft
clay, can be reshaped before curing.
xoxo
