CITY-Computer CITYzens:

I was leaving a comment on Peabody's shutterfly account
http://opaldragoncreations.shutterfly.com/
and in so doing was invited to start my own account.

In the spirit of experimentation I went and opened an account "Out of sight, out of mind" is what I named it and I'm more than amused.

There are a number of lay out options and I picked the one for "group".  There's a space to write a journal so I put an entry there. There was also a space to put a picture so I uploaded one. Then there was a space for a video. I have YouTube and could have uploaded a video there and used that link for Shutterfly, but I didn't want to load up an experimental video on YouTube because I have over 300 subscribers and they are subscribed because of polymer clay. Shutterfly is in partnership with another video storage site, Motionbox.

So I thought, ok, I'll film an experimental video for this account and use that Shutterfly video partner. I didn't have to register at MotionBox it was automatic through Shutterfly. Again, I am very amused with the video.

Shutterfly seems alright for those who do not have a website of their own yet and find that having a blog, Flickr, YouTube scatters their stuff all over the place, Shutterfly is good for offering to display a number of things at the same account. I've been reading their FAQs, it's free unless you want a professional account to sell your photos, the photo storage is unlimited (for now), when I was loading up the video it said "1 of 10 videos uploaded" with the base account there is a video limit, with the Pro account there's more space available.

You can have people you know join and become members of your Shutterfly account. I get updates from Peabody and when she comments and folks reply I get them in my email inbox, which is right handy. Shutterfly is trying to capture the social networking audience and since I don't do MySpace or FaceBook, for a number of reasons, mainly I don't like how they look, I think that Shutterfly just might be where I'll do social networking.

So that's my experience with Shutterfly and I'll most likely be using it for other things than clay or minatures. I think I'll use it for random nattering. I do love the video alternative to YouTube.

xoxo
